I decided to start this blog a week into my internship so let me back up a bit to recap what has been going on so far.  So much has occurred in the first week that I need to start recording it so I can keep track of my time here.

It took three planes, two books, and about a day and a half of traveling to arrive to my destination: Sasebo, Japan.  The flight over was actually the easiest international flight I have ever experienced.  There were hardly any people on the plane so almost everybody had a whole row of seats to themselves.  This made it possible for me to sleep a little since I could lay down completely flat.
"FUK" is for Fukuoka.
What were you thinking?!

When I went through immigration at the airport, they almost wouldn't let me in.  They didn't understand that I was a civilian working for the military and kept insisting that I show them a military ID which I don't have.  On top of that, the worker hardly spoke any English so I don't think he understood the concept of an "intern".  So they brought me over to a special room and the workers talked about me for a while before issuing me a temporary visa.  Luckily I was not pressed for time since my layover in Tokyo was a little longer than 2 hours.

My fellow intern Kelsie and I were put up in a hotel in town where we were able to explore some.  We found out we couldn't read a map properly and got a little lost but saw some really neat things along the way.
Some Koi we found in the river that runs through town.

The streets are pretty clean overall.  Cleaner than most cities I've seen in America.

  1. Great blog, keep that memory of a half empty plane, you'll need it in the future!
